Novel Candles began as an idea-turned-mission, born out of necessity in March 2020 at the onset of the pandemic. Like so many others, interior designer and former bartender Ashley Dufresne found herself at a crossroads and decided to pivot. She dreamed of combining modern design, recycled materials, upcycled glass, and clean-burning candles while paying homage to the rich culture of Louisiana.

But Ashley didn’t stop there. She envisioned candles as more than just home decor—they became a way for loved ones to connect, even from afar. The result? Personalized, nostalgic creations that are so much more than candles—they’re heartfelt keepsakes.

With the support of a global community, Ashley was able to bring her passion for design and her commitment to sustainability to life. Today, Novel Candles stands as a testament to creativity, resilience, and connection.

Our candles are crafted with premium-quality ingredients to ensure the cleanest burn possible. We use:

  • All-natural fragrance and essential oils

  • A proprietary vegan Cocosoy wax blend

  • Organic wicks

  • Hand-poured small batches, made right here in NOLA

You won’t find our candles on Amazon—each one is thoughtfully made with care and intention. Our custom blends and labels celebrate nostalgia and honor the unique spirit of Louisiana.

After witnessing thousands of glass bottles discarded during her years in hospitality, Ashley decided to act. With her background in design and staging, she knew she could do better—both for her community and the planet. Thus, Novel Candles was born.
